Nissan Is Making Electric Ambulance

Electric vehicles are actively developed by many car manufacturers. They are not going to be personal autos only: Nissan is expanding its line of electric autos by adding a light commercial electric vehicle. It is based on NV200 and the manufacturer says it might serve as an ambulance or taxi in the nearest future.

Nissan is planning to develop four new electric concepts in the future and this LCV is only one of them. The need of an electric commercial vehicle is well grounded: “The low-cost multipurpose vehicle would allow ambulance drivers to drive directly into the hospital or van and taxi drivers to enter urban areas where CO2 emissions are restricted,” says the manufacturer.

NV200 presented at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show is going to global customers in the beginning of the next year. Its electric version is not going to come much later: Nissan plans to launch the electric LCV in Japan in the USA in the end of 2010.

There are no details as to the modifications of the electric car, but it is probably going to have some similar versions with NV200: a cargo van, a Combi version for carrying both people and goods, and a passenger van.
