Does Your Car Really Need Premium Fuel?

According to Detroit Free Press the national average price for premium gas makes today $4.48 per gallon which is 40 cents more than regular price. Drivers are refusing to buy the fuel.
To tell the truth most of those people who have been purchasing the premium gasoline don’t actually need it. And even among those drivers for whose cars 91 gas or higher is recommended the demand is going down. According to Freepr the current level is the lowest since 1984. The top level of demand for higher-octane fuel was registered in 1997 and made up 16%. Last month’s level made up hardly 8%. The demand for premium fuel is so lo that at some gas stations it takes 3 or 4 weeks to get rid of it. Compare this index with just a couple of days needed to sell regular fuel.

The experts name a few reasons for this drop of demand. Today people are changing their preferences from luxury expensive models to cheap and efficient vehicles requiring regular fuel. The owners of cars only designed for premium fuel are trying to drive less. And those driver who prefer to use premium fuel despite of the fact their cars can eat regular one are getting more sound. Consumer Reports considers that many cars claimed to be designed only for premium fuel are doing as well with the regular. So you have a good opportunity to save your dosh filling up your car with 87. But please, don’t blame us if something goes wrong underhood.
