AMP Represents the concept of electric Saturn Sky

Do you know that it is very difficult and expensive to build a car? To sell a new car the startup companies usually have to meet many regulations. In order to make the process easier they can choose between two ways. Some of these companies like Aptera and Zap produce three-wheeled cars and in this way escape from safety rules. Phoenix Motorcars has chosen another way – it creates new electric vehicles on the platform of already existing cars.  The same way is chosen by Advanced Mechanical Products of Cincinnati OH.

Currently this company is offering an electrically-driven variant of the Saturn Sky. This car will be a good friend to those people who are eager to be emission-free. So what is actually done with the Sky? The car loses its EcoTec four-cylinder drivetrain and battery pack goes in its place. Besides, the back end of the car gets a pair of electric motors and electronics. The price of this emission –free vehicle is published on AMP’s internet site. It consists of the cost of a new Sky plus $25.000. zccording to the designers the car is capable to go 150 miles on a charge and reaches 60 in 5.7 seconds.
The only drawback of this project is that the battery pack is much larger in reality that it is shown in the illustration and its weight is around 800 lbs. Such a mass located above the front wheels will spoil the car’s handling.
Currently we don’t know whether working prototype of the Sky even exists and when the sale will start.
