Caterham R500 Superlight

Have you already have your first glimpse on Caterham R500? You can not judge for sure about the car only looking at small pictures. But we have confirmed information that the vehicle will have a 263 horsepower, 2.0-liter Duratec 4 which can provide 8,500 rpm.

The car can be equipped either with a six-speed manual or a six-speed sequential ‘box. An important part of its £37,000 package is launch control. Currently we do not know whether the cars of the line will have clear plastic hood and there is no information about its weight.

The R500 will weigh likely in around the 500kg mark, depending on the options chosen (windscreen vs aeroscreen). The previous K Series engined R500 was a similar spec but with the lighter engine, it came in just under 500kg. Either way, it’ll be ballastic and should be interesting with the new sequential (presumably the new uprated Quaife) box.
