New Brake Lights Give Drivers More Information

According to Virginia Tech engineering students the problem with brake lights is very important. The problem is the stopping signals are very simple and they offer only “yes” or “no” alternative. When a driver uses brakes for any purpose the lights do not provide other drivers with the information what exactly the driver is intending to do and how soon the car will decelerate. The lights provide the same signal when a driver is slamming on the pedal to avoid an obstacle ahead or just tapping the brakes.
To solve this problem the students have represented a new type of brake lights which provide drivers with the information on how quickly the car ahead will decelerate. The lights are the series of bars that glow bright red when a car is going to come to immediate halt or orange when it is merely slowing.
The only drawback of the new lights is their price they will be a little more expensive than usual brake lights. But the inventors hope that the price of their brainchild will go down quickly when the new braking lights become commercialized.
