Bentley Is Going to Go Green in its Own Way
Being one of the most famous car brands in the world Bentley is also very concerned about going green. However it is too radical for conservative car family to make a switch to diesel or hybrid powertrains. Instead, the company grounds its green future on the combination of lighter-weight body construction with efficient gasoline engines powered by biofuel.

Bentley chief engineer, Uli Eichhorn thinks that the customers both in Europe and North America are really prepared for diesel Bentley. At the same time Bentley Chairman Franz-Josef Paefgen states that the company does not intends to refuse from diesel engine conception completely. But currently it is not the company’s top priority.
Eichhorn says that hybrid powertrain does not fit the typical usage cycle of a Bentley. Hybrid vehicles proved to be very good for city driving and in stop-start driving. But can you imagine a Bentley stuck in a traffic Jam& nonsense!!! That’s not where such cars are used.

The company’s intention to reach average of 120g/km on a “well-to-wheel” basis by 2012 aws announced at the Geneva Auto Show. Currently Bentleys average 450g/km. Paefgen says that Bentley’s intention to contribute to fuel efficiency and going green is one of the most important steps in the history of the glorious automaker.
In order to cut about 15 percent from tailpipe current Bentley’s emissions, the company is planning to introduce new engine management systems and improve car’s transmission.

A new powertrain which is to be introduced by Bentley in 2012 will provide a further 40% reduction of fuel consumption. The engineers are expecting to lower tailpipe emissions from 400g/km to 260 g/km.
Now we are not aware of details regarding the new powertrain. However the experts think this will be a mild hybrid wit its stop-start system and de-clutching alternator, using second-generation biofuel.
Today second-generation biofuel made of waste material is expected to be widely available around the world soon.
