New VW Golf will be launched in the late 2008

In his interview given to Automibilwoche during the motorshow in Shanghai, head of development for VW, Ulrich Hackenburg notified that the best selling model of VW will not be changed next spring as it was planned originally. According to Hackenburg, the reason is that the current VW Golf is still selling very well and now there is no need to replace the model. Of course it is an official reason.

Non-official version is that Martin Winterkorn, the VW new boss, has delayed the introduction of a new model at 2008 Geneva Show because he was dissatisfied with all the details of the Golf appearance and decided to redesign it completely.
Whatever the reason is the new 6th-gen VW Golf is to be introduced in late 2008.

According to Hackenburg, the new model will be equipped with updated 160Hp 1.8TFSI Audi’s engine. The company is going to stop production of the 170Hp 1.4TSI engine as this type is not reliable. GTL will be equipped with stronger motor version of the present 2.0 TFSI motor.

Somehow its hard to believe that en executive from VW could have made such a comment, taking into account that the tsi (twincharged) engine is a best seller and it has also been fitted to the new Tiguan.
Even if it was true it is sure a ‘no no’ statement to be made, especially from an excecutive for a product that is still selling unless he wants to commit a career ’suicide’(you can only imagine what can happen to a company that sells a product that is considered by them ‘unreliant’)
Thus ny reservetions on the validity of the article.
