Higher Fuel Efficiency is the Law Now.
At last President Bush has signed the legislation which will absolutely change the vehicles Americans drive in future. The document was firstly adopted by the House by a large margin. According to this bill higher fuel economy standards are set for cars and light trucks.

One of the main goals of this legislation is to reduce US demand in oil which is now makes up 2 million barrels a day. This is to be achieved by 2020 by means of raising requirements to gasoline mileage by more than 40 %. These new requirements will come into force from 2011.
After signing the Document the President said that day the country has made a great step with the Energy Independence and Security Act. This is very important for controlling the climate change, for reducing the USA oil dependence; this all will help make the whole nation “stronger, cleaner and more secure”.

Bush is also very concerned about the problem of making plug-in-hybrids a reality. That’s why the bill also provides around $90 million per year to develop researches in this sphere.
James E. Press, Chrysler’s president, also welcomes this law. One of Toyota’s officials said that now they have a national target and they will do all their best to meet the new standards.
Archer- Daniels-Midland Co., Pacific Ethanol Inc. and other companies dealing with ethanol production are the biggest winners. According to the bill the biofuel is to be blended with gasoline in order to reduce the amount of petroleum products consumed by the American transportation. So the level of biofuel production must be increased by 2022 to 36 billion gallons. In 2012 this amount is expected to be increased up to 7.5 billion.
The officials expect that in future this legislation will save to car owners between $700 and $1,000 per year paid for gasoline.
