Stars On Cars!

What are these stars on cars anyway?! It`s not Lindsay Lohan or Angelina Jolie in a car for sure:But this “Stars on Cars” can help you decide on which vehicle to buy. Yeah, I`m damn sure about it! Starting the first day of September 2007, new car buyers and clients are provided with another important tool (Stars on Cars) to assist them in picking the best and safe vehicle from the given selection that they are going to purchase.

This new law is part of a provision in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2005 Highway Bill. The “Stars on Cars” needs car makers to post both crash test and rollover ratings results from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on all 2008 vehicle window stickers. More than a year ahead of the government’s Sept. 1 deadline, Ford Motor Company started early in posting the government’s safety ratings on several of its vehicles in the present day.

“It provides consumers with important information right at the point-of-purchase and it helps show that we have many vehicles with excellent crash test ratings.” — James Vondale, director, Automotive Safety Office, Ford Motor Company.

“We’ve supported the legislation since it was first proposed” said James Vondale, director, Automotive Safety Office, Ford Motor Company. “It provides consumers with important information at the point-of-purchase and helps show that we have many vehicles with excellent crash test ratings.”

The new regulation is called Stars on Cars since they use the star-rating system NHTSA uses to assess and rank new vehicles in front and side crash tests and in rollover prevention tests. The best feasible safety rating for vehicles within the same weight class receives five stars. The NHTSA crash results are posted on the window sticker together with information that is previously given such as the manufacturer’s safety, retail price, and comfortable features and EPA fuel economy.

“According to several studies in the marketplace, safety has become a much bigger part of the buying decision because it helps consumers make a more informed decision at the dealership and it encourages all of us to continue to enhance vehicle safety” added Vondale.
